Lisa Turner is an extraordinarily talented lighting designer who has a very special connection with Another Chance. Simply stated, Lisa’s mother, Suzanne Watson Turner, directed the inaugural Off-Broadway run of Another Chance at the Samuel Beckett Theatre on 42nd Street in New York City in 1997. During her time as Executive Director of the Negro Ensemble Company (NEC), renowned for helping to launch the careers of Denzel Washington, Esther Rolle, Samuel Jackson, and many other legendary actors, Suzanne Watson Turner (Lisa’s mom) gave our Playwright for Another Chance, Melanie Marie Ford her big break making the show the first gospel musical produced by the NEC in its [then] 30-year history!
Lisa was barely a teenager back then but has not forgotten the emergence of Another Chance in the theatre world (later directed by Melanie Marie Ford and produced by Dreams Come True Productions, Inc.). Lisa shares that, “The story and music of Another Chance has stuck with me throughout my pre-teen, adolescent, and young adult years.” She further states, “… when my mom told me that Emmanuel and Melanie Ford were looking for a Lighting Designer for Another Chance’s premier at the True Love Center … it bought it full circle for me from a child watching the show’s rehearsals, mimicking the actors, and dancing to its music … to now being responsible for the lighting of the production … definitely full circle!”
Lisa Turner is a freelance lighting designer who is in demand in the industry. The producers of Another Chance are very pleased to have her as part of our creative team. Her company, Unforgotten Media, is based in Durham, North Carolina where she also serves on staff at the Wall Town Children’s Theatre.
